RAP MAN

"So first project, talk about something your passionate about!" -- Rap, Rap, Rap. I really love rap it has been a style of music that really spoke to m. No i'm not talking about Niki Minaj, Stupid Hoe,or some other basic song the Rap I like is more creative if you could a word on it. People like Kendrick Lamar, J cole, Childish Gambino, and Logic. They are the artist that pop to me and make rap enjoyable. Of course there's lesser know artist like VI Seconds, KYLE, and D-Why. With out all the watered down music in rap along with not really getting the artist thoughts into the song because of things like paid writers and ghost writers. (Ghost writer noun, A person paid to wright for someone else but will not be credited as author). Rap to me has been a very big inspiration for the poems I write, it taught me how to grasp a better rhyme scheme and a sense of what it really is to create your own style. From all the artist I like no of then are the same in the sense of style flow and lyricism. For instance KYLE's flow is more from line to line while someone like Kendrick Lamar tends to bring the line together creating a smoother style.

Growing up in New York I actually used to hate rap until I found some artist that really spoke to me, not because it sounded great and I could dance to it but I could relate to the artist in a way. Rappers never had to look like a super handsome plastic man, or a barbie doll girl ,so I't let me feel like they were more human in a way not to say that other artist aren't. That's just how it felt. Since you could be goofy with rap also really appealed to me, there was no need for to just have love, dance, or sad songs because you could express more through this style which made it a lot more enjoyable for me.  Back in elementary rap was big (not to say it isn't now), long story short the school hated it and any chance the school got they would shut down ant form of rap at all because it was a "bad influence" on the children. It never really bothered me at the time but thinking back on it, it was pretty stupid. Rap had said the same things that pop songs did. Meh', well the way I really got exposed to rap were rap battles in school, of course that made for some more controversy at school but all in all, I sucked... And that was a big thing in my school because y'know being black and male basically means you're a good rapper. It was a big blow to my ego then, I started to hate rap VERY MUCH. Going into  middle school I started to get back into it again and I started to like artist like Kanye West(before he went crazy), It was a more aggressive style that I liked because, it really hyped me up gave me some needed energy. To me rap is the best genre, why? For one it's so creative. Rap has no one style you can go into it however you want! You can be funny or serious sad to up beat. You can go really fast or very slow because of iambic pentameter. Overall I love rap, I see not many people like due to many stereotypes and misconceptions. That's what i'm passionate about.
